What is Meso?
Meso, short for mesotherapy, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that involves injecting small amounts of customized solutions directly into the middle layer of the skin (the mesoderm) using tiny needles to puncture the skin's superficial layer in a controlled and painless system.

These solutions can include a variety of ingredients depending on your specific skin concerns, such as:
Hyaluronic Acid: A powerful humectant that deeply hydrates the skin, improving plumpness and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Vitamins (A, C, E): Potent antioxidants that protect the skin from environmental damage, brighten the complexion, and promote collagen production.
Minerals (Zinc, Copper): Essential for healthy skin function, these minerals help to regulate oil production, reduce inflammation, and improve skin tone.
Peptides: Short chains of amino acids that stimulate collagen and elastin production, improving skin firmness and elasticity.
Antioxidants: Neutralize free radicals, harmful molecules that can damage skin cells and accelerate ageing.
Growth Factors: Proteins that stimulate cell growth and repair, promoting tissue regeneration and improving skin texture.
How does Meso Work?
The injection process itself creates tiny micro-injuries in the skin, which triggers the body's natural healing response. This stimulates collagen and elastin production, leading to improved skin firmness and elasticity. Additionally, the direct delivery of active ingredients bypasses the skin's natural barrier, allowing for deeper penetration and more effective results compared to topical products.

From Pain Relief to Aesthetic Applications:
The History of Meso
Meso, short for mesotherapy, isn't a new fad.
Its roots trace back to 1952, when French physician Dr. Michel Pistor first developed the technique. Initially used for pain management, its skin-revitalizing benefits soon became apparent.
The story begins in rural France in the 1950s. Dr. Michel Pistor, a general practitioner, was treating a patient with asthma. He injected procaine (a local anaesthetic) into the patient's ear, hoping to relieve their symptoms. While it didn't improve the asthma, Dr. Pistor noticed something remarkable – it significantly improved the patient's hearing!
Intrigued by this unexpected result, Dr. Pistor began experimenting with injecting various medications and substances directly into the mesoderm, the layer of tissue between the epidermis (outer layer of skin) and the hypodermis (deeper layer of fat and tissue). He found that this targeted delivery method could effectively treat a range of conditions, from pain management to circulatory problems.
It was used to treat medical conditions such as chronic pain, vascular disorders (i.e. poor circulation and varicose veins) and sports injuries by accelerating healing and reducing inflammation.
Key Milestones in Meso's Development:
1952: Dr. Michel Pistor develops the technique of mesotherapy.
1958: The French press officially coins the term "mesotherapy."
1964: The French Society of Mesotherapy is founded.
1987: The French Academy of Medicine officially recognizes mesotherapy as a distinct medical discipline.
Over time, physicians and surgeons around the world began to recognise the potential of mesotherapy in Aesthetic Medicine. They discovered that injecting specific substances into the skin could improve its texture, tone and overall appearance.
Mesotherapy's Breakthrough Period in Aesthetic Medicine
1995: Introduced by Dr Orentreich, the foundational innovator of cosmetics and the father of hair transplants in New York for scar treatment.
1997: Canadian Plastic Surgeon, Andre Camirand, published his technique after noticing that scars improved for patients who underwent tattooing without pigment and started using tattoo guns without ink for post-surgical scars
1999: South African dermatologist Dr Des Fernandes pioneered the design of a derma roller - a drum-shaped device with multiple fine protruding needles used for percutaneous collagen induction [stimulating collagen production in the skin]
This led to the development of mesotherapy for cosmetic purposes, including:
Skin Rejuvenation
Improved Skin Texture: Mesotherapy can help to smooth out rough skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines and minimize pore size.
Increased Collagen Production: The micro-injections stimulate collagen and elastin production, leading to firmer, more youthful-looking skin.
Hydration and Radiance: Mesotherapy delivers hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid deep into the skin, improving moisture retention and restoring a healthy glow.
Reduced Hyperpigmentation: Mesotherapy can help to fade dark spots, age spots, and other forms of hyperpigmentation, resulting in a more even skin tone.
Hair Restoration
Stimulated Hair Growth: Mesotherapy can help to stimulate hair growth by delivering nutrients and growth factors directly to the hair follicles.
Improved Hair Thickness and Density: Mesotherapy can help to thicken existing hair and increase hair density, making hair appear fuller and healthier.
Reduced Hair Loss: Mesotherapy can help to slow down or even stop hair loss in some cases.
Meso Today: A Global Phenomenon
Today, mesotherapy is practised worldwide, with millions of people benefiting from its therapeutic and aesthetic applications. It has evolved significantly over the years, with advancements in injection techniques, formulations of injectable solutions, and a deeper understanding of the skin's physiology.
Why Meso Has Stood the Test of Time:
Targeted Delivery: Meso delivers active ingredients directly to the site where they are needed most, maximizing their effectiveness.
Minimally Invasive: It is a relatively comfortable procedure with minimal downtime.
Versatile: Meso can be customized to address a wide range of concerns, making it suitable for various skin types and conditions.
Proven Results: Decades of clinical experience and research have demonstrated the safety and efficacy of mesotherapy.
By understanding the rich history and evolution of mesotherapy, we can appreciate its enduring appeal and its potential to deliver remarkable results for both health and beauty.
